Antique gold chain and Augis French pendant

Why do I like old things so much? I guess for their sense of history, the knowledge that they’ve been held and appreciated by others.

I’ve always thought old books were beautiful, with their cloth bindings and gold embossing. These books have been collected over the years.

The Augis Love Poem Pendant

The pendant is vintage French and a classic design that reads: “Qu’ Hier Que Demain”. The phrase means “more than yesterday, less than tomorrow”. It is inspired by a French love poem by Rosemond Gerard — “For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow.”

The jewelry design is by Alphonse Augis, created in 1907. This one has diamonds and synthetic rubies, with a beautiful carved laurel border.
I’m not sure how old the pendant is, but if I had to guess I’d say circa 1930s or 1940s, as this particular design seemed to be popular then.
The pendant is made by Augis and I bought it from @confettibyjas.
I would love to collect more of these Augis pendants in the future!

To learn more about the Augis, read this blog post by Becky from Diamonds in the Library. I read this when I was hungry to learn more about these love poem pendants, and I really appreciate the research that she did!

The Antique Victorian Gold Watch Chain

The gold chain is a Victorian English men’s watch chain, over 100 years old. These are now quite popular for women to wear as necklaces, using the clasps as charm holders. I am obsessed with this style!
The chain is 9ct gold and has Belcher style links.
I bought the chain from @lillicoco.

I like pairing these two jewelry pieces together, but of course they can be mixed and matched with other pieces!
