About the jewelry maker
Hello there! I'm Crystal, owner and creator of Gem of a Story. I have always been mesmerized by jewelry and gemstones. In fact, when I was a child, I wrote a note to the tooth fairy asking to be paid in jewelry instead of money.
Former tech worker turned stay-at-home parent, I learned (and am still learning!) metalsmithing by taking classes from many wonderful teachers in Seattle. Now, I feel incredibly grateful to make fine jewelry with my own hands and to share it with you. Every piece of jewelry is made by me in my home studio. My designs are inspired by nature, history, and other worlds found in literature. I hope you will enjoy perusing the treasures you find here.
One of my favorite things about jewelry is its relationship with time. Jewelry made with quality materials and craftmanship can last lifetimes, passed down through generations. Isn't it fun to think about where your fine jewelry pieces will be 100 years from now?
Jewelry often marks specific times in our lives. It is a special experience to wear a piece or rediscover it in your jewelry box and be reminded of when and how you acquired it. Perhaps it was a gift from a loved one to mark a special occasion, or a gift to yourself for celebrating a hard-earned accomplishment, or perhaps the motif of that piece was meaningful to you because of your life experiences.
In any case, we not only wear jewelry to adorn ourselves with beauty, but to mark time and to tell stories.
